The number of men seeking aesthetic and anti-ageing interventions is growing rapidly. Where previously there was a hesitation among men to undergo cosmetic procedures, with the growing trend in small, subtle treatments which are usually temporary or reversible, aesthetic procedures for men have become safer, quicker, more acceptable, and more tailored to their specific aesthetic goals. This is all achievable without the need for major financial outlay or long periods of recovery.
In our experience, the masculine face is also often easier to produce an appreciable aesthetic result in than the feminine face, which is usually more complex. The reasons for this vary, for example a heavier muscle bulk in the average male upper face means that wrinkles in the forehead and frown lines are often stronger and deeper, and therefore may cause a more aged appearance that in an average woman of the same age. Relaxing the muscles of the upper face using botulinum toxin (Botox®) therefore, will usually produce a more significant anti-ageing effect in the masculine face.
Another very common yet often unnoticed cause of ageing in the masculine face is increased bulkiness of the jawline. While a strong masculine jawline is considered attractive, a lot of men have over-bulky masseter muscles (the muscles used for chewing, at the angles of the jaws), which increases jaw width and disturbs the smooth contour of the strong masculine jawline. The masseter muscles can be felt distinctly at the corners of our jaws when we clench or grind our teeth. Masseter bulkiness is a problem that can quite easily be corrected with botulinum toxin (Botox®), which causes partial relaxation and eventual shrinking of these muscles to restore the natural jaw contour. See our section on Jawline Resculpting for more information.
